Presentation Gospel and jazz are combined in Malou & the Jazpels musical, swinging, irresistible show “Old Souls’ Avenue”. Here you can find both gospels, jazz, a combination of both or a change-over from one to the other in one great sound of joy.
Malou combines songs that “like each other”, swing wonderfully together, songs that fit her way of singing – please read: with great passion. “This is a bag of goodies for music lovers!” cried a listener. The bag of goodies with Malou & The Jazpels and “Old Souls’ Avenue” lasts for about one hour but you can only ask for more.
Choir team-work Consert is often given in cooperation with local choirs that are then included in four to six songs. Choir arrangements are sent in good time to the choir with a recording of the tunes. I consciously keep the arrangements simple so that the choir may quickly practise the songs. Rehearsal with the choir is then carried out some hours earlier on the same day.
Another side of The Jazpels
Gospel and Jazz. The gospel music was created from the hearts of the slaves, an irresistible song which sang in their souls. It grew and was nurtured by their belief in God, their joy, their pain and their innate feeling for music, harmonics and rhythm. The gospel music continued into the churches but there it was too playful to stay... it floated out of the windows and rose to the sky... and further... towards the cities where it found a home, where it seduced and played with the musicians of that day in alleys and clubs... it was intoxicated by life and turned into jazz music! The two sisters, Gospel and Jazz, are forever joined in a symbiosis of emotions and tones. They never forget each other but rarely get the chance to meet. But now is the time! “Malou & The Jazpels” allow us to experience it, at long last.
The songs... Examples of the songs in the programme: All Of Me, I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Music Music Music, I Got Rhythm, When You’re Smiling, Lazy River, What A Wonderful World.. and spirituals such as Hold On, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Swing Low, When The Saints Go Marching in, Amazing Grace as well as own jazpels.
