No structure. No melody. No lyrics. No form. It could have ended in chaos, or a piece of music that just idled along. Sometimes, however, the stars align. What emerged was an evocative piece of magical music.
The journey began when the highly unconventional percussionist Xavier Desandre Navarres started playing, without a word, on bowls tuned to 639 Hz—that is, the key of E-flat major, but slightly higher than the traditional Western/German tuning.
The piece thus follows the ancient, so-called Solfeggio scale (more on this below). It has also been called the “frequency of love,” is linked to the heart chakra, and is believed to create harmony.
”Spiral is a living, vibrant total work of art that celebrates life and its origins.”

About the recording
MALOU ON THE ANCIENT SOLFEGGIO SCALE
When Malou first heard about the Solfeggio scale, her curiosity was immediately piqued. After having studied music and been involved with music her entire life, how come she had never heard of it before? She was stunned by the realization that such significant information had never reached her ears.
“We’re not talking about the Solfeggio I learned in music school, where, the notes were just called by different names, but still sounded the same.”
Instead, she heard about an ancient Solfeggio system, in which the tones were based on frequencies other than those we’ve been used to regarding as “real” or “correct.” Instead, these frequencies resonated in harmony with our bodies and had a powerful healing and balancing effect.
“This was knowledge that had been available before, but – like so much other knowledge of an esoteric nature – had been hidden from us. Knowledge that gave us the strength and power to create our own lives.”
Since then, Malou has, among other things, read about experiments conducted with damaged DNA: the frequency in the Solfeggio scale known as the “Miracle Frequency” had been used on damaged strands. The DNA strands unwound and healed.
Malou had also sometimes wondered why her Tibetan bowls weren’t in tune with the 440 Hz standard. Why weren’t neither the ancient nor the newly produced bowls in harmony with our scale?
“Here was the explanation; the bowls were perfectly in tune with the ancient scale, and the people who had made them had known exactly what they were doing!”
