BREATHE OUT GETS DIGITAL WORLD RELEASE

Pressrelease – 2025-09-12

On 22 September, Malou’s album ”Breathe Out” will be available on all major streaming services for the first time. This will be accompanied by a new cover that better harmonises with the content.

The album was originally released on CD in 2011, containing a number of reworked ‘string versions’ of songs that originally appeared on various previous albums.

Most of the songs originate from her ”Pleiadian Suite”. A comprehensive, magnificent work in which the material is sung in Pleiadian, a language invented by Malou herself which even won a literature prize at the Ordfestivalen in Östhammar in 2009.

The jury’s citation read: ”Malou Berg is awarded the Word Prize for creating her own unique, sensual and musical language – Pleiadian. She also has the ability to help others express themselves through singing them, and to enjoy them”.

A little English and Swedish also creeps in a couple of places on ”Breathe Out”, but in such a gentle way that the album’s evocative mood is not broken.

Selecting the songs proved to be relatively easy. Most of the songs were simply those of Malou’s own favourites that co-producer, Lasse Nilsson, felt could be given an additional boost with hand-tailored string arrangements.
Only one song, ”Nu faller ljuset in i mig” (which originally appeared on Malou’s first gospel album from 1984), got completely reworked from scratch.

The rest of the material was cleaned up in the multi-channel recordings to make room for the orchestral arrangements.
”Lasse stripped the original arrangements of everything that could be removed without losing the flow” says Malou. ”The stripped-down vocal ”skeletons” were then sent to arranger Tormod Tvete Vik, who wrote the most beautiful arrangements imaginable for strings, harp and piccolo trumpet”.

The new arrangements lifted the already rich musical core of the compositions to reach even more breathtaking heights.
”In retrospect, it has struck me what a privilege and honour it was that Tormod even agreed to make these arrangements, considering how sought-after he was, and still is, as an arranger”, says Malou.

The new arrangements were performed by musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
”I was present for all the recordings. Just sitting there, surrounded by the 16 or so orchestra musicians, and smiling foolishly as I listened to all these fantastic sounds,’ smiles Malou.

Apart from the brand new front cover created by Anders Bühlund exclusively for the digital release, Malou saw no reason to rework the material from the CD release. And why should she? Everything still sounds as fresh – perhaps ”timeless” is a better word? – as it did when the original album was first released.
